There are a number of ways to get involved with the work of the APALRC, and we need your help! Consider supporting our efforts by becoming a law student volunteer, an intern, an interpreter, or a pro bono attorney. We also welcome inquiries about employment opportunities at the APALRC, as well as possible service on our Board of Directors.
The APALRC has internship opportunities available throughout the school year and during the summer. Summer internships are on a full-time basis. For academic year interns, the APALRC requires a minimum of 10 hours a week (higher time commitments can be arranged for students seeking academic credit or scholarships). As an intern, you will have the opportunity to:
- Research, plan, and execute targeted legal projects in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
- Conduct client intake on the helpline by using your language skills, and under the supervision of a licensed attorney, assist clients in matters involving domestic violence, employment, immigration law, and other legal issues.
- Match clients with an appropriate legal service organization or pro bono attorney.
- Assist APALRC attorneys and legal service partners on spec ific client cases, particularly where interpretation is needed.
- Develop community outreach and education materials.
Interns should possess proficiency in at least one Asian language. An understanding or interest in issues confronting the Asian American community is necessary, and experience working with Asian American communities is a plus.
